Auditors for Bonsucro, an international organization that manages the global standard for sustainable sugarcane production, recently wrapped up their 5th audit of the Sunshine Sugar operations throughout the Northern Rivers.
Brazilian auditors for Bonsucro, Osires De Melo and Paula Porto, who visited 17 Cane Growers, the 3 Mills and the Refinery at Harwood were more than happy with operations and have given Sunshine Sugar the tick of approval again.
Sunshine Sugar Chief Executive Officer Mr Chris Connors, commented; “Following an intensive two-week audit of our growing, milling and refinery operations, we are pleased to announce that all participating growers were awarded 100% scores and our 2016 crop has been certified sustainable.”
Mr Connors went on to say that; “Sunshine Sugar has been involved in the Bonsucro scheme since 2012 because we believe in its ethos of actively working to ensure responsible sugar cane production that creates lasting value for the communities, economies and eco-systems in our cane growing regions.”
Sunshine Sugar is currently the only sustainable certified sugar manufacturer that is 100% Australian owned.
